#My Garden Right Now

Here is a rarity: the Lesser Spotted Sitting Gardener. Brimming with to do lists and incapable of controlling the urge to weed, deadhead, sow and mow (not necessarily in that order or all at the same time), the Lesser Spotted Sitting Gardener is apt to instantaneously metamorphose into the Greater Spotted Sidetracked Gardener.
Please don't let the turquoise mac fool you. It is machine washable and sees more non-bio action than your average coat. Shortly after this photo was taken, the Lesser Spotted Sitting Gardener scurried off to plant a yew hedge, and tested the mac's trench coat credentials to their gardening limits. Now the mac is resigned to spending yet another Saturday night dancing around a drum on a 30 degree wash.

This photo was taken today for the #MyGardenNow project. Details are here. Go on... join in. We all want to see your garden right now!

And if, like me, you have trouble sitting in your garden and doing nothing, why not try one of these?

  1. I often ponder the fact that I'm the only one here who doesn't relax in the garden, and I'm the one who does all of the work in it. But as you say, it's hard to sit still when you can see things that need doing.

    1. It's strange that I can see plenty of tasks requiring my attention indoors, but somehow I can sit and ignore them.

  2. Which came first, the coat or the door?

    1. The coat! Doesn't everyone paint their doors to match their coat? ;-)

  3. I put clean jeans on before going to the plot and in minutes after arriving I had dirty knees AGAIN!

    1. The folly of gardening in clean clothes! I am sure that muddy gardeners' jeans are very on trend this year.... they are the new Little Black Dress.

  4. I like how well coordinated your coat and your door are! There's no reason a busy gardener should be stylish as she potters about. The dwarf Iris are lovely too!

    1. Ah yes... I'm a great believer in co-ordinating my clothes with doors, except when it comes to french windows. I NEVER co-ordinate with them!

  5. Excellent! I can relate. I try to sit and relax, then see something and think 'I'll just do x' then sit down again. The Lesser Spotted Sitting Gardener is a rarity indeed.

  6. I'm chuckling Sarah, as you're totally right! It's SO hard to sit in the garden and NOT get up again within oh, 30 seconds at the most when you spot something that needs doing right now ;) I think that's why most of my garden sitting's at dusk because you can't see what needs doing and I get distracted by the bats flying around*

    * = a glass of wine or Pimms in my hand might also have something to do with it

    1. I think you're right. I will sit for longer with a drink in my hand. It doesn't need to be alcoholic - coffee does the trick too. It is a standing joke at home that I keep making new places to sit and "have a lovely drink".

  7. The beauty of visiting gardens is that you can sit and enjoy without the inner gardener reminding you of the to do list!

    1. That's true! It wouldn't do to go around pulling up other people's weeds.

  8. I have the same antsy impulses when in the garden. There's always another task that that grabs my eye everywhere I look.

    1. Perhaps we should design gardener blinkers or rose-tinted spectacles...

  9. Well done Sarah, you got it spot on, in this post and the past one you linked to. I know the feeling exactly, it is so familiar. I am not even a fussy gardener who wants everything to look perfect, but as soon as I sit down and look around I notice something that needs doing, however tiny a job it might be it just has to be done right away!

    1. Thank you! I shudder to think what it must be like for people with manicured lawns and regimented flowers. It's bad enough for us folk who aren't fussy!

  10. My garden right now is white, under the snow, Sarah. So I can walk there in clean clothes :-)
    Happy Women's Day, dear!

    1. Thank you - and a very happy Women's Day to you too! I love to see gardens blanketed in snow, but when it's my patch, I get itchy fingers and want to garden. I hope you're not too frustrated by the snow and that spring arrives for you soon.

  11. Who says garden duds have to be dull? Your turquoise jacket is a photo-perfect complement to your garden and the blue door! I like to wear a sun visor to protect my eyes and to keep my hair out of my face. I recently purchased a new one with bright, glittering multi-colored stripes, to celebrate all the new colors popping out in my garden.

    1. That sounds fab! I think I might look out for something similar. I am forever losing my sunglasses in the garden!

  12. Hello Sarah, sometimes I wonder why I bother having chairs and benches in the garden. I barely sit down for a few minutes before I'm up, having spotted that "one small job" or pulling out that "one small weed". Before you know it, it's gone dark and the tea is long cold.
